Terrible pun…But I had to do it. Seems a young female moose had to go to the “Summer Place to Be” on Monday. Seems she tried to be an early entry to the Travers race but instead got a tranquilizer dart and a trip back to the woods. NBS Sports got a nice video of the action here and the Saratogian had a nice blurb here.
The occasional moose used to much rarer but the herd’s numbers are increasing (up to 500 from 100 or so a decade ago) and more are wandering in from neighboring states. Our friends at DEC have posted a friendly alert for motorists. Hitting a moose with a car is tantamount to running into another car because of their size. A North American Moose can hit 1200 to 1600 pounds and they can be rather nasty at times. More about moose over here.
This is why I love the upstate lifestyle. You never know who or what is going to drop in for a visit. Oh yea! Almost forgot; congrats to our downstate New York City dwellers, you are king of the road ragers now.
